Spain and Gibraltar - Approved Valuers

Survey Spain S.L. (formerly known as Ferguson Eley S.L), is owned by Campbell D Ferguson F.R.I.C.S. and Christian S Eley M.R.I.C.S. In addition, there is a separate company only serving Gibraltar based clients, Survey (Gib) Ltd. Campbell qualified as a chartered surveyor in Scotland in 1973, working in private general practice as a partner and director covering all types of commercial and residential property. He first started working in Madrid, Spain as Managing Director of a UK owned development company in 1989, coming permanently to Costa del Sol in 2001. He is a committee member of RICS España, which represents the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Spain, and is on the sub-committee advising on regulation of RICS firms in Spain. Christian qualified in the UK in 1997 and arrived in Spain that year. He has worked here in private general practice and for Taylor Woodrow, dealing principally with residential property and development. Both Directors are individually regulated by RICS.

Survey Spain Chartered Surveyors, a registered trading name that was created when Campbell and Chris merged their practices in 2005, carry out valuations for all purposes and building surveys throughout Andalucía. Survey Spain Network is an association of collaborating chartered surveyors living and working in all the coastal areas of Spain, the Balearics and the Portuguese Algarve, who forward work instructions, as sub-contractors or independent surveyors as appropriate. Survey Spain carry out valuations for many international banks and other worldwide finance houses and have directly assisted UK Government departments. Campbell has recently been appointed by the President of RICS as an Expert Witness with regard Spanish residential valuations relating to UK Court work, for which there is an increasing demand.

Christian had always worked on a personal basis for many of the financial institutions in Gibraltar. Accordingly, Survey (Gib) Ltd was created in January 2006, which now is instructed on a regular basis by the principal ‘high street’ banks there including NatWest, Barclays, Leeds BS, Norwich & Peterborough BS, Newcastle BS, etc. We also carry out many private instructions for other international finance intermediaries and individuals.

In July 2007, an estate agency division, DATUM Estates, was started specialising in the local area of Estepona – San Pedro + Benahavis. It is directed by Paul Richards, who has a number of years of experience in marketing and selling property in Costa del Sol and has also been known personally to Christian since their school days. In addition to expected profits, the direct market knowledge will assist our valuation judgement by knowing the strength and activity of the market. DATUM is a separate division, ensuring our valuations independence, confidentiality and avoiding conflicts of interest.

Survey Spain has fully RICS compliant PI insurance cover. Many articles on a variety of relevant subjects have been published by local and international press and digital media and examples of these can be found in the ‘Information’ section of the Survey Spain website www.surveyspain.com

Finally, we confirm that Survey Spain, Survey Gib and the individuals working within these companies carry out their work, survey and value as regulated by the RICS Rules of Conduct and ‘Red Book’ mandatory Practice Statements and Guidance Notes, as required by the UK regulatory authorities and by the Spanish CNMV. We are willing, experienced and able to assist with all real property, development proposals and businesses throughout the Spanish Mainland, Islands and Gibraltar.
