Good news with Marbella Business Park

19/10/2009

The announcement of the creation of Marbella Business Park is the best news for Costa Del Sol for some time. It will bring more international companies to work here and will prove to be the making of Málaga as the equivalent of the USA's 'Sunshine State'. Companies will set up headquarters here as the quality of life in the major capitals of London, Frankfurt, etc and its resultant stress on businesses and individuals becomes intolerable. Due to the lack of a 'pool' of qualified technical staff, it is unlikely that the 'backroom' offices will move, but the headquarters offices should as they can be located anywhere where there are good communications. Malaga airport has many international links and the fast train to Madrid, Barcelona and beyond will also help. It must be a Business Park as well as a Technology Park so that headquarters staff will want to live here, where there's a better life for them and their families. The only problem could be in the feeling of remoteness, but if sufficient numbers can be brought in one significant headquarters, that could provide the critical mass to bring in others and make Málaga/Marbella the centre of where others will gravitate. Look at nearby Gibraltar's success in becoming the international centre for the computer gaming industry.

Málaga technology park has been successful to an extent, but tends to be too Spanish. As long as international companies can be encouraged to come here and the space is not taken up immediately by Spanish companies, it will lead to a rapid expansion of International industry plus all the local services that will be required. With the Spanish economy faltering, the cost of living and working here will reduce in international terms. However, there is a great deal of work to be done, with modern communication networks being essential. Reliance on Telefonica only with their investment concentration elsewhere, will not be sensible and alternative facilities must also be on offer. And that's not only within the Park, but must also be to the homes of all those working there as all working becomes more and more practical and popular. The aim is to provide jobs for all levels of society, qualification and intelligence and short-term local or national interests must not be permitted to slow things down. Without the building industry, Costa Del Sol now really only has tourism and associated businesses. There must be expansion of its business base and this is by far the best way of doing so. Well done Ayuntamiento de Marbella and Junta de Andalucía.
